Radiology

An ultrasound scan is a medical test that uses high-frequency sound waves to capture live images from the inside of your body. An ultrasound allows your doctor to see problems with organs, vessels, and tissues without needing to make an incision.

Unlike other imaging techniques, ultrasound uses no radiation. For this reason, it's the preferred method for viewing a developing fetus during pregnancy.

An ultrasound is also a helpful way to guide surgeons’ movements during certain medical procedures, such as biopsies.

Formerly, a light-sensitive film was exposed to X-rays and then developed. The digital X-ray is the modern development of the conventional X-ray, using a digital-detector system instead of traditional photographic film.

A digital-detector system on the opposite side captures the incoming X-rays, varying in strength, and converts the signals into an image on the computer. This system is much more sensitive than conventional X-ray systems. Therefore, a significant reduction in the radiation dose is possible.

Cardiology

The term cardiology is derived from the Greek words "cardia," which refers to the heart and "logy" meaning "study of." Cardiology is a branch of medicine that concerns diseases and disorders of the heart, which may range from congenital defects through to acquired heart diseases such as coronary artery disease and congestive heart failure. Physicians who specialize in cardiology are called cardiologists and they are responsible for the medical management of various heart diseases. Cardiac surgeons are the specialist physicians who perform surgical procedures to correct heart disorders.

Echo Test

Echo Test is a form of ultrasound test that utilizes high-pitched waves of sound that get transmits through a device called a transducer. This device catches echoes of sound waves that bounce off to the various parts of the heart. The echoes get converts to digital images of the heart, which is visible on a video screen.

ECG

A natural electrical system causes the heart muscle to contract and pump blood through the heart to the lungs and the rest of the body. Electrocardiography (ECG) is a test that records the electrical activity of the heart.

The electrical activity of the heart can be detected through the skin by small metal discs called electrodes. During electrocardiography, the electrodes are attached to the skin on the chest, arms, and legs. The electrodes are also connected to a machine that translates the electrical activity into line tracings on paper. These tracings are often analyzed by the machine and then carefully reviewed by a doctor for abnormalities.

Changes in the electrical activity of the heart caused by a chemical (electrolyte) imbalance in the body. ECG is interpreted by a doctor who specializes in heart problems (Cardiologist) or a General Physician.
